RST Direct Ltd: A Secure Cloud Evolution for a Growing Logistics Business

Established in 2011, RST Direct provide a wide variety of logistics services to their customers, encompassing the services of a customs broker, licenced haulier and compliance specialist. As
well as being AEO accredited they hold a number of other essential authorisations that allow them to deliver seamless end-to-end services that many brokers cannot.

In 2025, RST were looking to take the next step to enhance security, compliance and resilience in their IT solution. A site move was also being contemplated, so Albacore’s technical sales
team developed an innovative solution encompassing our cloud server, Albacore Cloud Environment (ACE) and Albacore Cloud Remote (ACR) offerings.

The resulting solution is based around an Albacore cloud server that provides access to customs clearance and accounts software. User collaboration on documents is completed entirely in the Microsoft cloud with a comprehensive backup solution in place. The solution design ensures that the data and applications of RST are only accessible from within the hosted
server environment or from recognised and supported client devices that meet minimum security requirements. These security requirements are documented and defined by an Albacore Cloud Protection Premium policy to ensure all current and future users have the same level of protection. This evolution project was undertaken by the same Albacore engineer that delivered the previous refresh in order to provide the best insights into the existing system and customer requirements.

The project was planned and executed over a number of months, with very fine attention to detail paid to the planning, test and live migrations of all datasets to ensure the downtime for users was minimised. The result is a truly watertight and integrated rework of the IT solution from top to bottom. Full buy-in and deep knowledge by the management of RST was essential to deliver the appropriate rights and roles to each user and secure their access to systems appropriately.
