CHIEF outage 6/12/13

Users will be aware that CHIEF suffered two periods of service interruption yesterday, firstly between 11:50 and 12:26 and again from 13:42 to 14:26. Both service breaks were caused by an EEAL transaction processing a 99-item entry. Before CHIEF was able to complete the processing of this larger than usual entry, the transaction was resubmitted several times, severely compounding the problem and rapidly exhausting CHIEF processing resources. Analysis of the problem after the first downtime was not completed in time to avert the second outage.
Immediate steps to avert a repeat of the processing failure have been put in place and a series of processing improvements have been identified to be applied in the near future.
