Just to add that the current rigmarole takes you through My Computer to Computer Management, Event Viewer and to Administrative Events. They tell you that the event log is a list of malware on your computer, and that they can fix it if you log on to their website http://www.efix.co – there they ask you to click on the Technical Support icon which downloads the real malware.
When I stopped doing as they asked, the woman put me onto this Khalil Chahin bloke, who gave his Microsoft number as 6290268.

HI all, Also had a call from ‘Khalil Chanin’. BEWARE!
I gave them the run around and made them call me back like 4 times. This convinced me that they were a scam. (Microsoft would have e-mailed or posted this info on their website) When they called the 5th time and confronted them (YOU are SCAMMERs , I told them) They put the phone down. If my PC had a virus it would have given me more errors, and I take it to my local guy to fix. Also, the website they want you to connect to is dodgey. http://www.ammyy.com (what is that?- Doesn’t sound like a microsoft website to me!)

Had a call today from someone claiming to be Khalil Chahin a certified Microsoft support guy with registration MCP ID 6290268. He claims my PC is infected and wanted to fix it on behalf of Microsoft. He gave me his registration number to Google but it was not convincing, I doubt if Microsoft would call every user who has a problem so he did not get access.

Just been called by these people. Listened to the carefully crafted sales pitch. Then told “Barbara” (from India) that I knew more about PCs than she or her scamming company did. Clearly a fraud as no way on earth would Microsoft be calling like this.

Catch them out: when they say they have your registration details from Microsoft – ask them to tell you what the OEM number is. If IF they guess it (which they wont) just remind yourself – it’s still a scam!

A colleague just popped in to tell us she had been scammed too. From the story she gave us, it seemed quite genuine even to a techie like me, but Microsoft would NEVER ring you or give out any details regarding your system. Make sure you get your important data backed up, your computer completely wiped, and reinstall windows from scratch.

I was called tonight by the same company. I’m not sure where they got my details from but the have name, address and telephone number and have an idea thay you have a PC running Microsoft Windows.
I knew it was a scam so simply played along for 5 minutes to see what rubbish they came out with – It was absolute twaddle – These idiots should not be trusted to tie your laces let along mess with your PC – Be warned !

This company just called me, so in return and revenge for the victims here, I read out this entire article to him and then proceeded to threaten harassment charges if he called again.
